Mee Kari Bidor & Mentarang (Pre-CoViD19 Ride)

Today, Friday 17th April 2020.

It has been one full month since the country is in a partial lockdown. The term used by the government is Movement Control Order (MCO)- i.e. limiting movements of everyone and allowing only essential services to continue operations. All others are either supposed to work from home or just stay at home. Only head of family is allowed to go out, in limited time and distance radius to buy basic necessities (foodstuff).

Saturday, 14th March 2020. The day we ride. I know.... it is already over a month ago. Well, for lack of better excuses, I've really been preoccupied.

The day after this ride, I drove to Penang (work) as was there until Wednesday the 18th. And that was the day our country began the MCO, originally slated for 14 days or two weeks. So, I got home that day to observe the stay-at-home order. And my employer had fully complied with this order - all our colleagues worked from home. Not sure if this is true for everyone, but working from home as it turned out is more hectic than working from office. I (and most my colleagues) were trapped in this virtual office all day and late into the evening!

Anyway, back to the ride story. Mzac opened an invitation early morning Friday... and as expected, not many could commit...

Anywho, on Saturday morning I was the first to arrive at the RV place... If according to the sign-up, the riders would be Mzac, Zack, Hj. Amir, Capt Tas and me.  The place was overly crowded with cars and bikes alike.  There were just too many people travelling, taking advantage of the school holidays which began that day.

A while later, Zack, Mzac and Amir arrived - and I was in the surau... they apparently looked for me when they saw my v-strom parked at the station.  For those whom may not remember, Hj. Amir is Mzac's neighbour and he rides a Kawi Z1000.  He has joined us a few times in the past but has been inactive for over a year.  It's good to ride together again today.

Well, we waited for Capt. Tas for a bit, but it didn't look like he was coming.  So, we charted our route and headed out to our destination, Bidor for Mee Kari Lina.  It was a rather casual ride for all of us.  The traffic was quite heavy since today was the first day of (a one week) school break.  The restaurant was rather packed when we got there... So, we settled for a smaller table...

The food....

The bikes...

This was a first visit for Hj. Amir... While for the rest of us, this establishment has been of our usual destination when riding up North.  And the ride would normally be incomplete if we do not make a loop through Kuala Selangor.  For today, it was rather unfortunae that Hj. Amir could not be with us throughout the whole trip as he has another commitment at home.  So, reluctantly, he rode back alone via the PLUS Hiway.....  And we headed to...

..... Pak Din Mentarang.  There has been a slight improvements in the road condition since we last travel this route.  Part of the coastal highway from Kuala Selangor to Lumut is already completed...

Otherwise, there was nothing really out of the ordinary about this ride.... except maybe Zack and Mzac were far ahead of me.... how can my 650 tourer keep up with their sports bikes :-)

Anyway, it was a rather hot day... so the first thing that we had when we arrived at the mentarang place was to drink the naturally cooling drink....

And of course the mentarang, in two different dishes - bbq'd (bakar) and soup (with lemongrass only) - would be a must.  * the price though has gone up so much since we first came here a while back... some 3 years ago?

Well that was about it on this ride... nothing much to write about.... except maybe for the small little mishap that Mzac had while exiting into the LEKAS hiway from Kuala Selangor-Ijok road... right at the traffic light junction beneath the (still not yet completed) flyover... I was too far back to see what happenned.  But when I got to that place, Mzac's bike was down on the road - luckily the light was on red and cars were slowing down.  There are actually two traffic lights at the junction - the first for going straight and the second fro turning right.  The second light was still green, while the fist one just turned red when they reach that junction.  Zack was infront whom braked for the light while Mzac was closely trailing him and only noticed the second traffic light which was still green... While he managed to brake on time, he was apparently too close to Zack and hit the rear tyre of Zack's bike, losing his footing thus dropping the bike!  No injuries or major damage to the bike.  And Zack, was not affected at all....   The only damage sustained on Mzac's K8 was a broken clutch lever... but luckily only part of it broke thus it was still usable.

And today (17th April), Mzac reported that hes has replaced the lever after receiving his online order just the day before :-)

The newly Replace Lever

It was but a small break at the tip of the lever...

Well, that's about as dramatic as it could get on our rides :-)   As I remember correctly, we got home around 3.00pm that day.... safe and sound alhamdulillah...

And since now we are under MCO and Ramadhan is around the corner, I guess it would be at least another month or two before we could get together again for a ride.... Till then, here's some more photos from the ride...

And of course, Mzac signature pose... this blog entry would not be complete without this special pose... :-)

And one from Zack that morning...... :-)

So guys, lets pray the MCO ends after hari raya so that we can do our rides.... soon....

* This ride was on Saturday 14th March 2020.
